Youth voice embedded in all we do

The TYC Youth Board sits at the heart of our organisation. Made up of passionate young people aged 12 to 25, they help shape the direction of TYC Arts & Education CIC, represent the voices of their peers, and ensure that young people play a key role in every major decision we make.

As part of our wider governance structure, the Youth Board meets monthly, takes on leadership roles, and works alongside our Directors to influence projects, programmes and planning. They contribute ideas for creative work, lead fundraising events, support younger members and help us continue developing TYC as a safe, inclusive and inspiring space for all.

Their insight strengthens our organisation.
Their creativity shapes our programmes.
Their leadership represents the future of TYC.

The Youth Board is a formal part of the governance structure of TYC Arts & Education CIC.

We are incredibly proud to be youth-led — and this team of young leaders embodies everything TYC stands for.

I have been a member of The Young Creatives Portsmouth since 2016 and have experienced various shows in my time, from The Grinch all the way through to Be More Chill.  I have also had opportunities to volunteer and work with other groups, which gave me my first step into a creative career.

I am a committed member of the group and am dedicated not only to learning scripts but also to helping out across different sessions. I thrive in situations where I can problem-solve, which is one of the reasons I chose to be on the Youth Board, because I care about the group.

The Young Creatives has been a huge inspiration for me, and being on the board means I can help shape the future of the company, support others in the group, and give something back to the people who have helped me.

I have been part of The Young Creatives (TYC) for four and a half years and have taken part in many productions, including Alice in Wonderland, Frozen and Shrek.

I am a committed and respectful person, and I always try to be responsible, kind and understanding towards others.

I joined the Youth Board because I wanted to speak up for others and help bring forward their ideas, making sure everyone feels heard and seen. Being part of the Youth Board has also given me the opportunity to get more involved, meet new people, and grow in confidence, and I really value the experiences it has given me.

Jess - Secretary

I have been part of The Young Creatives (TYC) since 2023. During this time, I have been involved in several productions, including the 10 Year Anniversary show, The Periodicals (part of National Theatre Connections), and our most recent production, Shrek. I have also taken part in a short film project with the University of Portsmouth.

Being part of TYC has helped me grow in confidence and develop my acting skills. I joined the Youth Board to give back to the organisation for everything it has given me, and being Secretary allows me to support the board, gain valuable experience, and continue developing through new opportunities.

I have been part of The Young Creatives  since the beginning of 2014 and, during that time, have seen the company grow from just five people to over 100 participants across multiple classes.

I am a confident and energetic person who enjoys getting involved in group projects and cares deeply about the direction TYC is moving in.

As Fundraising Lead on the Youth Board,  I am committed to helping create new opportunities, support the team, and give back to an organisation that has given so much to me.

I have been a part of The Young Creatives for six years and have performed in productions such as Pantastic, Alice in WWWonderland, Shrek and Holka Polka. I have a big personality, and acting has always been a passion of mine.

Since joining TYC, I have been able to practise, develop and strengthen my performance skills.

I decided to join the Youth Board so I could work behind the scenes as well as on stage, helping out wherever needed. As Events Lead, I enjoy being involved in planning, supporting activities, and making sure events run smoothly for everyone involved.

I have been part of The Young Creatives (TYC) since 2019 and have performed in productions including Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Frozen and Shrek.

I joined the Youth Board to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone, which has helped me grow in confidence and led to me being awarded Young Creatives Person of the Year 2025.

As Inclusion and Wellbeing Representative, I want to help make sure everyone feels supported, included and able to be themselves within TYC.

I have been part of The Young Creatives (TYC) since February 2025 and have since taken part in productions including Shrek and Musical Mashups.

I am a kind and friendly person who loves performing and being part of a creative community, and being involved in TYC has helped me grow in confidence both on and off stage.

I joined the Youth Board because I want to help make TYC even better by supporting new ideas, encouraging others, and making sure everyone’s voice is heard. As Community and Outreach Representative, I enjoy working with others and am excited to contribute, learn, and help create a positive and welcoming environment across TYC.

I have been a part of The Young Creatives (TYC) since spring 2022 and have taken part in five productions so far, with my sixth currently in progress. These include Alice in Wonderland, Frozen, TYC’s 10 Year Anniversary, Holka Polka and Shrek.

Since joining TYC, I have grown in many ways. Everyone involved has helped create a fun, safe and supportive space where young people can learn, develop and be themselves. I joined the Youth Board because I wanted to give back to the community I am a part of, become more involved, and help improve an already strong and positive environment.

In my role as Creative Representative, I hope to help ensure that TYC continues to be inclusive, youth-focused and creatively ambitious. One of my favourite things about TYC is working with people from many different backgrounds and age groups, which has greatly helped build my confidence. TYC is a unique and supportive community, and I am very grateful to be a part of it.
